God’s Discipline Brings Great Rewards
God’s Discipline Brings Great Rewards
Hebrews 12:11. “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”
Many people mistakenly believe that once they become a Christian they will not have any more trials. Somewhere they have gotten the idea that God’s blessings always come in the form of money, health, and other good things. Though it is true that God does bestow many blessings on us, sometimes those gifts come in strange ways.
I never played a sport in high school, so when Luke started to play football it was very hard for me to understand why there had to be so many practices. It seemed like a huge burden running back and forth to the school on school days and even on holidays. As I watched his progress I began to understand the importance of daily discipline. In order to stay strong a person has to use his muscles on a daily basis.
I began to apply this to my spiritual walk. Just as a good coach pushes his players, making them do difficult things for the purpose of gaining skill and strength to win the game, so God allows trials into our lives to train us in righteousness. At the time the physical exercises did not seem very fun – often Luke would come home exhausted and with sore muscles – but on game day the team was thankful they had gone through the daily grind.
As you go through life you will be faced with many challenges. Do not be disheartened. God, the perfect coach, knows what He is doing. He will not push you harder than you can bear, but will skillfully train you for the game of life.
Love,
Mama
