No More Worries!

Dear Kids,

Matthew 6:25.  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”

The warm breeze caressed the tree branches where the perching birds warbled to one another as Jesus settled down on the grassy mountain. A huge crowd of disciples had followed Him here and listened intently as He taught them important lessons.  Many of these determined followers were poor and hard pressed to provide the daily essentials of food and clothing for their growing families.  Jesus pointed them to the beauty of nature to bolster their trust in the Creator of all things.  “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they? . . .  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

Today many in our circles do not regularly feel concern about where they are going to find their next meal or tomorrow’s  clothing.  We have more than we need.  How often have you looked in your closet full of clothes and wondered what you were going to wear?  Our worries are often more about whether we are in style or have the right shoes and accessories.  Will I fit in with my friends?  We, like the disciples on the hillside, also need to put aside anxiety over these and other contemporary temporal matters.  Remember that life is more important than the right food or the right clothing.  Who we are on the inside and what we do with our life is more important than what we wear on the outside.  Look at God’s creation.  It is absolutely stunning and you are worth so much more even without the fancy trappings, so why worry?

No matter what your situation is, remember that your Heavenly Father made you and cares about you.  Look at the birds and the flowers.  God provides for them and He will provide for you, too.  No  more worries!
