This little light of mine – I’m gonna let it shine

Dear Kids,

Matthew 5:16. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”
Like a voice from the past, the words of this child’s song came to me the other day. Have you ever felt very tiny in a vast world filled with millions of people? Sometimes the desire to make a difference can be overwhelming. It is easy to wonder what kind of an impact you are having on the world around you. What will you leave behind when it is time for you to depart from this earth?
Hide it under a bushel, NO! I’m gonna let it shine. Hide it under a bushel, NO! I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!” As Christians, the desire is even greater as we consider the importance of our family and friends hearing God’s plan of salvation and having a chance to accept the gift that God has given in His Son.  We must use every opportunity to share the gospel story with those around us.  The Bible says  to be ready always to give an answer to anyone who asks us a reason for the hope that is within you.
Don’t let Satan blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine. Don’t let Satan blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!” Our enemy, Satan, wants us to dwell on our “smallness” and our perceived lack of influence, but we need to fight back with the truth.  When each of us shines our little light in our personal sphere of influence, the lights begin to merge and create a piercing beacon that no one can ignore. They will hear our testimony, see our good works, and glorify our Father in heaven.
How about it? Let’s each hold our little light high and “Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”

Love,

Mama
