True Power Source
True Power Source
Dear Kids,
I stayed home from work the other day to enjoy a productive but relaxing time of housework and leisure. Everything was peaceful until Emily came running downstairs panicked because she could not find the power cord to her computer. She was on her way out the door to study when she realized that it was missing. We began to comb the house for this essential piece of hardware. Her computer was dead and she would not be able to study without it. After a frantic search she remembered that she had left it at a friend’s house and, filled with relief, left to retrieve it and continue her studies.
It would have been foolish for Emily to try to write a paper with a dead computer. Nothing would have shown up on the screen. She needed the power that the cord could provide to accomplish anything of value. This circumstance reminded me of today’s verse. The prophet Zechariah had a vision by which God told him to encourage Zerubbabel, a Jewish leader who was working to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. God wanted to remind him that through the power of His Spirit, He would enable him to do the work even though it was a difficult job.
How often today do we try to do things without asking for God’s help? Even in our Christian service we forget that it is the Holy Spirit that gives the power to accomplish anything of value. Striving and working hard without the enablement of the Holy Spirit is just as foolish as trying to use a dead computer without the power cord.
No matter how much talent, strength, or giftedness you have, always remember that it is by the Holy Spirit that God achieves His work. That is how He gets the glory. Work hard but make sure you are connected to the power.
Love,
Mama
