Show me Your glory

Dear Kids,

Exodus 33:18. Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”

This seems like a very bold request for a man to ask of God, but God granted Moses this desire. Moses had been called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and through the desert to the place that He had prepared for them. This was not an easy task and there were many discouragements along the way.
After an especially difficult experience Moses came to God interceding for the people. As a result of his conversation, he asked God to show him His glory.  I do not think Moses completely understood what he was asking. He knew God was great and had experienced much of the power and might of the Almighty One when He delivered the Israelites from the stubborn and cruel Pharaoh of Egypt, but he longed to see more.
The most amazing thing is that God granted this request. Knowing that the full extent of His glory would be too much for Moses to handle, He provided a safe way for him to have that opportunity. He told him, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” God in His mercy restricted Moses’ vision. “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” The Lord then placed Moses on a rock where He promised to hide him in a cleft covering him with his hand to shield him from the full impact, but allowing him to see God’s back.
I am overwhelmed to think of this life changing experience – of experiencing the goodness of God’s whole character and nature. Do you know and believe all that you read about God in His Word? If so do you long to experience His glory and power in a personal, tangible way? It may be a bold request but why not ask? God desires to reveal Himself to those who seek Him. Lord, show me your glory!

Love,

Mama
