Weak Strength

Dear Kids,

I Corinthians 1:25b. … the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

It seems that many people these days spend a lot of time and money investing in their bodies. It is greatly valued in today’s society to be physically and mentally strong. I have watched many press themselves to the limit to gain greater muscle mass – muscles that I would hardly have known existed. We spend money on gym memberships and mix up fancy concoctions all for the purpose of improving our strength and sculpting our physiques.

I believe that it is important to eat right and to exercise. God has given us one body for our time on this earth and we need to take care of it, doing what we can to keep it strong. In that way we can use our strength for a life of service to God. Often, though, we get our perspective out of wack and we think that toning our bodies is the most important thing in life and what makes us worth anything. This is not true.

Every once in a while we are made aware of our weakness relative to God’s strength. The tornado that passed through our area last week was a powerful reminder of the strong arm of God. If God had any weakness (and He doesn’t), it would still be stronger than the strongest man’s strength. I can’t help but think of Christopher Reeve, the man who played Superman in the movies years ago.  He fell from a horse and was paralyzed from the neck down. All that we have, whether physical strength or mental ability we receive from God and He can remove it at any time.

So go ahead. Exercise, lift weights, eat healthily, and use all you have for God, but always remember that God does not value you based on your physical strength or the shape of your body. He made you the way you are and loves you whether you have a six pack or a two liter!

Love,

Mama
