Dear Kittens

Dear Kids,

Proverbs 13:13. “He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded.”

Dear Kittens,
I want you to know how much I love you. I really enjoy watching your silly antics and how you roll around with each other in one big fur ball. I enjoy watching you pounce on a bug and rustle under the hosta plants. I love to hold you on my lap and listen to you purr.
I am concerned about you, though. Why do you always desire to run away and hide under the bushes when I am trying to put you in your cage? Don’t you understand that I want to keep you safe? Just today I was getting ready to leave for work and couldn’t find you. Before pulling away in our big red truck I searched and searched, but you were nowhere to be seen. Upon opening the hood I found both of you tucked away in the engine.
I am not trying to be mean by restricting your freedom. I know that numerous other kittens have gotten killed when we have pulled away. They fell out of the inward parts of the truck and were left lying lifeless in the road. Such pain and suffering for those little cats and for us as we mourned their loss. I don’t want that to happen to you.
You are so much like us humans in this regard. God has put restrictions on our lives for the purpose of keeping us safe and secure but we disobey. We want to climb up into the places that God has forbidden. We think that it is warm and exciting up there and that God is mean by  putting restrictions on us. If we would only recognize that God loves us and desires to give us a joy-filled life. If only we would listen! Those who scorn instruction pay for it, but those who respect God’s commands are rewarded.
Kittens, I hope that you will pay attention to my advice and that we can have many years together happy and healthy. And I hope that we humans will also learn to follow God’s commands and live in peace.

Love,

Mama
