Fallen Sparrow

Matthew 10:29-31.  “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”

The other day as I was coming in from the barn I saw a dead sparrow lying in the grass.  I do not know whether it fell from a tree or if Crystal, the cat, got it, but it made me think of this verse. Jesus was talking to His disciples, preparing them for a life of service.  He was sending them out into a hostile world to speak the truth, and He knew that they would not always be treated kindly. He did not want them to be afraid, so He reminded them that even the smallest sparrow does not fall to the ground without God’s knowing and allowing it to happen.
If God cares for the most insignificant of birds, how much more will He care for you. He knows every detail about you right down to the number of hairs on your head.  Psalm 139 says He is the One who formed you in your mother’s womb and that He has searched you and known you. He has more precious thoughts about you than the sand on the ocean beach.
This world we live in can be a dangerous place but remember, if His eye is on the sparrow, then how much more will He be watching over you.

Love,

Mama
