Lighting Up the Farm Science Review

Dear Kids,
Matthew 5:15-16. “Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

The smell of strong coffee and savory sausage wafted through the damp morning air as I strode down Soybean Avenue.  Maneuvering my way through the growing crowds of people, I caught snatches of conversations buzzing around me discussing the newest farm equipment and the price of corn.
Many vendors had come to the Farm Science Review near London, Ohio, to promote their products. School groups had come to learn about agriculture and farming techniques, and still others just for the experience and for the fun. Whatever the purpose for attending, there were plenty of sites to see and delicious food to eat.
Finally I arrived at Tent 6 located between Soybean Ave and Land Ave. This is where I was to spend most of my day – sitting in a booth promoting our company’s services. As people passed by we gave out ink pens and answered questions about land prices and  how our company could help them with all their real estate needs.
I noticed that the booth next to us was attracting quite an audience. Every time a group would pass by the vendor would turn on a bright LED light he was selling. The 120-watt bulb would shine so brightly every time he flipped the switch it felt like the sun had just entered the room. People were drawn to it and he was then able to hand out information and answer questions on his product.
As followers of Jesus Christ we are told to put the light of our life on a lamp stand letting it shine out for all to see. Those around us will be attracted to our good deeds and humble spirits. When they are drawn to our light, we then must be ready to answer any questions they ask about the reason for the hope we have within us. In doing this some will desire to accept the message we proclaim and God will be glorified.
Our world is full of vendors hawking their goods and ways of life. Day after day people visit one booth after another searching for something to soothe their wounded spirits, comfort their aching hearts, and cleanse them from the guilt of sin.  We must shine our light the brightest because we have what they are looking for – Jesus Christ!
Next year maybe we should bring a really bright light to set up in our booth and attract customers. More importantly may our lives daily shine the brilliant beams of God’s presence so that everyone will see our good deeds and glorify our heavenly Father. Shine On!

Love,

Mama
