They might come to see you.

LAZARUS

They might come to see you.

Dear Kids,
John 12:9. “The large crowd of Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only but that they might also see Lazarus, whom he raised from the dead.” (NASB)
The large crowd travelled up the dusty road to Bethany. They had heard that big doings had been going on there. Word travels fast, especially when it involved the great miracle worker who had stirred up such controversy. After allegedly raising a dead man from the grave, he had disappeared, melting away with his disciples into the wilderness.

It was no wonder he had gone into hiding – the Jewish religious leaders were out to kill him. They had given orders that anyone who knew where he was should report his whereabouts to them so they could seize him.
Only recently had it leaked out that he had returned to the home of Mary, Martha, and the resurrected Lazarus. The multitude of curious Jews, getting wind of his arrival, had started the trip to see not only Jesus, but also the living dead man, Lazarus.
Reading this story I was struck with the thought that this crowd came to see Lazarus. They wanted to see the man for whom Jesus had done great things. After seeing this living miracle, many went away believing in Jesus.
Jesus does a great miracle in all of those who come to Him in faith. All who accept Him as Savior are crucified with Christ. They die to their old way of doing things, but come alive to the life of faith and obedience to God. They become new creatures.
As we live this resurrected life in Christ people will examine us to see if the change is true.  When they see that we are genuinely new creatures, they may also choose to receive the new life that Jesus offers them.
What a great responsibility! Many Jews made the long trek to see Lazarus and because of his testimony they believed in Jesus. And you just never know – someone today might come to you. Will the evidence of your life prove that Jesus is Who He says He is?

Love,

Mama
