Tupperware: Keeping it Fresh

John 7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'”

An explosion of color met my eyes when I entered the auction facility. A rainbow of Tupperware filled every table in the building. Red, yellow, blue, & green plastic bowls, serving pieces, cups, and pitchers were the order of the day. You name it, we had it!
Tupperware is a brand of plasticware for food preparation and storage that was first introduced in 1948. Earl Silas Tupper developed these plastic containers for storing food and keeping it airtight and fresh. The original “burping seal” removed the air from the container which kept lettuce crisper and bread softer. The product took off through home parties where homemaker entrepreneurs would invite friends into their homes to show and demonstrate the merchandise. In a world with less prepackaged food items than we have now Tupperware was a great way to keep your food fresh.
Food simply isn’t as good once it grows stale. Similarly, relationships can also become dry and tasteless if we are not careful.
On the last day of a great feast Jesus stood up and cried out to those around Him, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” Jesus was inviting those listening to enter into a relationship with Him. Those who received Him would receive the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit’s presence would be like a river of living water flowing in their lives.
When one receives God’s gift of salvation the Holy Spirit enters his life. With Him indwelling us we can live day to day with fresh life and power provided by His constant presence. Daily we need to allow Him to fill us, fully giving Him every part of our lives. His voice will direct us in what we should say, what we should do, and where we should go. As we respond to the Holy Spirit’s direction, our life will explode with God’s limitless power and we will be able to do all things through Christ Who strengthens us.
Though we will never lose the presence of God’s Spirit, we can quench His influence by ignoring His promptings. It is important to develop our ability to hear His voice by taking time to read our Bibles and speak to God in prayer. He may direct us to do some “out of the normal” things. But by obeying His voice we will keep our relationship with God fresh and alive.
Just as Tupperware is not useful if you do not take the time to put your food in it, so one’s relationship with God can become stale and tasteless if it isn’t properly maintained. This happens when we do not take the time to communicate with Him in prayer and drink in His words through the Bible.

Jesus wants all of us to have a vibrant, fresh relationship with Him. But once you have entered into that relationship, take the time to talk and listen daily. Just like with Tupperware and food, it’s important to do what is necessary if you want to keep it fresh!

Love,

Mama

Good analogy and advice. We all need to stay connected to Him if we are to be the salt of the earth, as He intended.
