Jesus was giving final instructions to his disciples the night before He was to go to the cross. These men had spent three years in Jesus’ company learning from Him and getting to know Him. They were now on the verge of going into the world to spread the Gospel message of His death and resurrection that would bring life to all who would believe. The power to accomplish this task would come from the Holy Spirit and through prayer. It was essential that the disciples understand how to go about this.
Nothing has changed. If you desire to have your prayers answered, then you must know Christ so well that you begin to understand His ways and thoughts. This is only done as you grant the Spirit, Who searches the deep things of God, to teach you what God has freely given (1 Corinthians 2:10-16).
You must allow God’s words to dwell in you richly, meditating on them day and night. You must allow the Holy Spirit to so permeate your life that your prayers are completely in tune with His will and desires. You must ask God to reveal His heart to you and then pray with His glory in mind.
