Soul Cleanse

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

Dear Kids,

Lately I have been feeling somewhat sluggish. I think all of the recent holiday cheer has found a home in my body and decided to stay. These unwanted symptoms are what got me thinking about a detox diet. I have heard a lot about them recently and it seems that by following a specific plan for eating healthy one can cleanse the body of harmful toxins, eliminate stress, and live a healthier life.

Though I don’t particularly desire to remove all sugar, dairy, starches, and packaged foods from my diet for an extended period of time, I know that if I go through the process I will feel so much better and have more energy. I guess it is worth a try.

While I am thinking about it, there might be some other areas of our lives that could use a good cleansing. It never hurts to look inside oneself and see what else needs to go. In a world that is full of all types of unhealthy choices, it is important to eliminate any that might clog one’s mind with harmful thoughts and attitudes.

King David had gone through a terrible time in his life. He had sinned against God by committing adultery with Bathsheba. Over time his thought processes had gotten out of whack and eventually he fell into deep sin. He finally realized that his only recourse was to trust in God’s unfailing mercy and ask for forgiveness.

While he knew God would forgive him, he also understood the importance of asking God to look deep into his innermost being and reveal any thoughts or attitudes that still needed to be eliminated.  “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me, was David’s prayer.

We must pray this same prayer if we want God to show us the areas of our soul and mind that are in need of a good detox. But along with praying it is also important to eliminate anything that is contributing to the problem.

Maybe it’s time to take the K-Love radio station challenge and listen only to wholesome Christian music for the next 30 days.  Possibly it’s time to turn off the TV or movie channels that have language and scenes that are not appropriate. Could it be that you need to read a good God-honoring book instead of being on Facebook, Twitter, or video games? It might be hard for a while, but if you persevere your mind will start thinking differently and your soul will be full of good healthy feelings.

A detox diet – well, maybe I could try it. Let’s ask God to show us what we might need to cut out of our lives, and let’s do it. Because there is nothing like a soul cleanse.

Love,

Mama

Prayer (preferably with Mama) first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I'm not perfect with this (as Mama knows), but I have a goal! Love that Mama!

I agree! Our mind is part of our temple, too. Our thoughts have so much power over our body's well being. Stress, ulcers, heart attacks, anxiety, binge eating…..can all begin with our thoughts. If it can begin there, it can end there.
