Network – It’s Crucial

Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work.”
Anyone involved in business knows the importance of networking. You can hardly attend a continuing education class without discussing business networks of friends or associates and searching for opportunities to use it to further your goals. This supportive system for sharing information and services is best utilized when each party gives selflessly to the other. By working together, all those involved reap benefits.
Your dad has helped me so much in this area. He is very good at making contacts and knowing who to call when something needs to be done. But he also is very willing to help someone else when they are in need. I, on the other hand, am not as good at making those connections, but I see the wisdom of doing so, and I have been working hard recently trying to get better at this important venture. I am good at working hard to get to know someone once I am connected with them in a network. Between Dad and me, we make a good team, or small network, as Dad can help us make the connections and I can help us get to know them better.
The wisest man in the world, King Solomon, understood the advantages of networking. In the book of Ecclesiastes he said, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up.” This wise king also suggested that if two lie down together they will keep each other warm on a cold night. And if attacked together they will better be able to defend themselves.
As followers of Jesus what better reason to network than to work with other believers to grow in our faith and share the good news of salvation. By building deep relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ we can encourage and build each other up, sharpen each other as iron sharpens iron, and strengthen each other through prayer.  God promises in Matthew 18:19-20 that “…if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”
How can we network amongst ourselves? First of all we need to spend quality time together. It is easy in this technological culture to cloister ourselves away, building only social media relationships. Though this can be a fun way to communicate, you miss out on stronger connections if it’s all you have.  Let’s face it, the computer is not going to keep you warm on a cold night or stand up for you if you are attacked.
Go to church. Get involved with a small group – perhaps a Bible study. Spending time with other people reading God’s Word and praying for one another fosters closeness and a safe place to share your joys and disappointments. Be willing to ask for and accept help and be ready to give help when  others request it. When you network with other believers you start to live life together and the load of the day-to-day grind gets lighter and more fulfilling.
There is nothing more comforting than the joy of working, living, and working with others who have the same goals and priorities. Networking is crucial and brings a good return for your work because two are always better than one.

Love,

Mama
