Don’t Dehydrate – Drink Deeply!
Don’t Dehydrate – Drink Deeply!
Acts 20:32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”
Dehydration does bad things to your body. I found this out the hard way. This past winter I did not drink enough water and I experienced all sorts of unpleasant side effects. My hair and nails got dry and brittle, my joints began to ache, my eyes had trouble focusing, and my skin felt rough and flaky. I had no idea that all of these symptoms came from lack of water, but once I figured it out I began to drink more.
Just as dehydration is bad for your physical body, dehydration from lack of God’s Word also has a negative impact on your soul. Paul warned the Ephesian elders that they should guard themselves against false teachers and errant teachings. He warned that there would be leaders who would come into their midst like savage wolves seeking to destroy the faith of many. He informed them that even from their number men would arise who would distort the truth in order to draw disciples away from Christ.Paul understood that the way to guard against these heresies was for believers to drench themselves regularly with the truth of God’s Word. That is why he committed his brothers and sisters in Christ to God and to the word of grace which could build them up and give them an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. The protection for standing firm in the truth was based upon regular reading and understanding of the Scriptures. This practice would help them recognize Satan’s lies and guard them from faltering in their faith when they heard false teaching.
Dehydration does bad things to your body. If you want to make sure you don’t suffer from a critical depletion of fluids, drink plenty of liquids regularly. And as H2O is to your physical body, God’s Word is to your spiritual soul.
So grab a nice, cold, and refreshing glass of water along with your Bible. Drink deeply of both and they will keep your joints from aching, your soul from becoming dry, and your eyes from losing focus of the truth.
Love,
Mama
