God’s Got This!

God’s Got This!

Isaiah 30:1-2 “Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the LORD, “who execute a plan but not Mine, and make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin. Who proceed down to Egypt without consulting Me, to take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!”

Recently I have been reminded by a number of people that “God’s got this!” No matter what the circumstances, no matter how big or small, no matter how impossible or hopeless – God’s got it under control. What a comforting thought to carry through the day. There is no need to panic or rack your brain to devise a complicated plan. In God’s way and time He will take care of it. Unfortunately, trusting God is not the human way of doing things.

From the beginning of time man has sought to solve his own problems. And when he was in a desperate situation he has sought help from the wrong sources and suffered the consequences.

In the early books of the Bible as well as in history Egypt is recognized as a place of abundance, wealth, and power. It was one of the most advanced ancient civilizations. When there was trouble in the land, the first place people thought to go for help was to Egypt. But in a country that worshiped more than two thousand false gods, usually the by-product of Egyptian aid was spiritual decline.

In the Bible Egypt became a code word for the wrong place to receive help when faced with a great difficulty. Though the opportunity to gain riches was prominent in this opulent country, the great temptation was to turn to the worship of the pagan gods instead of the one true God of heaven.

Later in the Biblical narrative Egypt was known for the powerful and controlling Pharaoh who kept the Israelite children enslaved for 400 years. It was only through the Almighty God’s power that the nation was finally set free in a miraculous exodus accomplished as the result of ten plagues that God used to defeat the hard-hearted Pharaoh.

Despite all this, many followers of Jehovah, when faced with debilitating famine, attacking enemies, or other difficulties still chose to go to Egypt for help in their trouble. Though these Biblical heroes should have known that “God’s got this!” they still chose to run to a foreign country for relief from their trials instead of to the One Who had never let them down. These were not wise decisions and always ended in disaster.

Through the prophet Isaiah God warns all of His children through the ages not to execute a plan that is not His and not to make an alliance that is not of His Spirit. We are not to take refuge in the safety of “Pharaoh” or seek shelter in the shadow of “Egypt,” but to put our trust in the God Who has complete control over all situations.

Where do you go when faced with a huge problem? Do you try to solve it on your own or run to the world’s methods for help? If so, then change your plans. Turn to the Almighty One Who will never let you down. Don’t panic, just remember … God’s got this!

Love,

Mama
