A Sweet Potato Surprise

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Isn’t it fun to find a cool surprise?
I have been enjoying my flower bed so much this summer. In the past I have not had time to cultivate our landscaping the way I wanted to. So this year, after Aunt Angela helped me get started,  I have spent a lot of time keeping it up.
The other day I was perusing the beds when I saw a flash of color peeping out from under the glossy leaves of the sweet potato plants. I knelt down, moved aside the foliage, and to my surprise saw a delicate pink flower blossoming on the stem. What a cool surprise! I had not expected these leaves to produce any blossoms, but there it was waiting to be found.
There is so much to discover in creation. If we were to uncover one surprise every day it would only be a tiny fraction of the things that our great God has designed and placed upon this earth for us to enjoy. We only have to take the time to look for these hidden beauties.
God has many other astonishing wonders for us to discover. Even in the midst of sadness and heartbreak, there are precious promises and sweet surprises to be found if we will only ask.
During a very difficult period in the prophet Jeremiah’s life, the Creator of the earth spoke words of comfort to him. While Jeremiah was confined in a courtyard prison, the Lord said, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Jeremiah did call and God revealed His plan for the nation of Israel. Though they had turned from God and were suffering the devastating consequences of their sin, there was a bright future ahead. God promised to bring health and healing to the land, allowing the captive people to return to their home and again experience abundant peace and security. Their sins would be forgiven and their city would bring joy, praise, and honor to God from all nations on earth who heard of God’s blessings. Because of this great and encouraging message the imprisoned prophet was able to give thanks to the Lord and proclaim, “For the Lord is good; His love endures forever.”
God still has immeasurable surprises to show us and to tell us today. If we will only call upon Him He will reveal great and unsearchable things that we do not know.
When we are without hope He can fill us with faith.
When we are without provision He can supply our every need.
When we are weak He can strengthen our tired limbs.
When we are desperate He can calm our nerves with His peace.
When we are lonely He can provide true companionship.
And . . .
. . . when we are in need of a little beauty, He may surprise us with a dainty, pink flower hidden under the sweet potato leaves. Call on Him today!

Love,

Mama
