#WeAllCan Fly Like An Eagle

Isaiah 40:31 “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”

Dear Kids,

The mindset of our culture and the mindset of God are diametrically opposed. We long for things in this broken world that God wants for us. Freedom, power, and peace are built into our psyches as humans, but our methods of achieving these goals have become skewed from God’s intention and design. Everywhere we go we see the error of our ways reinforcing the world’s lies and brainwashing us all, but especially our youth.

The other day Abigail and I were shopping. We had taken a trip to the local mall and were enjoying some time together while searching for some needed clothes. We went in and out of several shops before ending up in the American Eagle Outfitters store. While Abigail perused the jeans section I took a look around the store. Promotional posters showing strong, unsmiling youths dressed in ripped jeans and stylish shirts adorned the store’s walls. Among the posters were signs declaring:

#WeAllCan

push boundaries

walk on the wild side

write our own rules

I thought to myself, “Really?!” These are things we can try to do, but is it profitable?

When we create our own rules and disregard the boundaries that God has hardwired into His creation to keep us safe, we are just asking for trouble. Trying to satisfy our longings for freedom and power through our own strength will only end in exhaustion and disappointment. Even the youngest and strongest of eagles will eventually stumble and faint beneath the burdens they have brought on themselves in their quest for purpose and individuality.

God has given us a much better path to satisfy our human desires. He says that those who wait for Him will gain new strength. Only those who stay within His boundaries, who walk with Him through the wild places, and who adhere to His laws as they travel this life will mount up with wings like eagles. Our heavenly Father has placed loving restrictions on us not to hold us back, but to give us the freedom from the sin and the guilt that plague and keep us from flying high. He is God and we are not. The discipline to trust and wait for Him will lead to the rewards of true freedom according to His plan.

Hey, if you can get a good deal on jeans at the American Eagle Outfitters store, go for it. But be careful about believing everything you see or read. #Weallcan try to push boundaries, walk on the wild side, and write our own rules. But we are wiser and truly fulfilled only when we find the freedom, power, and peace we are seeking by doing it God’s way. His children will run and never get tired. They will walk and never become weary. And they are the ones who will soar like real eagles.

Love,

Mama
