Psalm 93:1a “The Lord reigns, He is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength.”
Throughout the years the daily news has provided fodder for the daily ritual of reading the newspaper. The black and white newsprint picked up at the local store or delivered directly to the house has enlightened many to world events and local news. Births, deaths, and other activities fill the columns. And in a small town especially we rejoice and grieve, give and share, and laugh and cry with each other in the daily experiences of life chronicled in those pages.
With children in school it has been especially fun to read the articles related to sporting events. Abigail’s volleyball team has done so well this season. After a big game it is exciting to grab the newspaper and read the reporter’s view of the game. The words become even more special if your name is mentioned in the column. Those articles deserve to be cut out and hung on the fridge!
Recently while reading Psalm 93 I couldn’t help but think about how great our God is. He is far above and beyond what any human being could imagine. His name, His attributes, and His feats all warrant the front page headline of any newspaper.
Our Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. He firmly established the world and it cannot be moved. He is the King whose throne was established long ago and He reigns from eternity and onward.
All of creation lifts up His name. The seas lift up their voices. They pound the ocean sand with mighty applause to express their praise of all His works. The Lord on high is mightier than even the strongest hurricane and powerful wind. His laws stand firm forever and utter holiness adorns His house. How great is our God!!
Tomorrow if you receive the daily newspaper, peruse the headlines. There will be much to consider. But when you are finished, pick up your Bible, read Psalm 93, and listen to the words about our God! Read about Who He is and what He has done. See His name in the front page headlines of Scripture and rejoice. Hang these words on your fridge for all to see because this great and mighty God is our Father and we belong to Him.
