Why the Power of Jesus’ Name Still Changes Lives Today
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men, by which we must be saved.”
Dear Friends,
Over the years, I’ve heard the familiar saying, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” In business and in life, success often comes through relationships. Connecting with people who have influence, experience, or a respected reputation can open doors you couldn’t access on your own. This isn’t about using others, it’s simply recognizing that every person brings something valuable, and relationships matter.
My father-in-law, Keith Sheridan, understood this better than most. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. Because he treated others with honesty, kindness, and integrity, he became well-loved by all who knew him. His name is still closely tied to our family business, Sheridans LLC. To this day, clients call with stories of how much he meant to them. We continue to benefit from the strong foundation he built, and we strive to carry on his legacy of caring for the people we represent.
The Apostles and the Power of Jesus’ Name
In a similar but far greater way, Peter and John relied unapologetically on the power of Jesus’ name in their ministry. They made it clear that the source of salvation, and the power behind everything they did, came directly from their relationship with Jesus, the Son of God. The recent healing of the paralyzed man at the temple gate had nothing to do with special knowledge or personal talent. It was unmistakably the power of Jesus’ name at work. The man who once lay helpless was now walking, leaping, and praising God – irrefutable evidence of divine intervention.
A Question of Power and Authority
Not everyone understood or welcomed this truth. After arresting the apostles overnight, the religious leaders questioned them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, boldly responded:
“It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed… Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
The leaders were stunned. Peter and John were ordinary, unschooled men, yet their courage was undeniable. The only explanation? They had been with Jesus. And the healed man standing before them silenced any argument.
When Obedience to God Comes First
Confused and threatened, the leaders ordered the apostles not to speak or teach in Jesus’ name anymore. But Peter and John refused to comply. They essentially asked, “Who should we obey – you or God?” Their resolve was firm: “We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” They knew their power came from the power of Jesus’ name.
Why Knowing Jesus Still Matters Today
Many today try to please God through sincere effort. They work hard, do good, study Scripture, or pursue religious knowledge hoping it will earn them salvation. Others serve tirelessly in ministry, believing their dedication will secure eternal impact. But human effort – no matter how impressive – cannot save anyone.
Why? Because it’s not what you know but Who you know that makes the difference.
If you want forgiveness of sins, if you long to minister with true spiritual power, if you desire God’s salvation, then you need to know and rely on the power of Jesus’ name. He alone saves. He alone transforms. He alone opens the way to God.
Love,
Mama
If you’ve been relying on your own strength, knowledge, or good intentions, let today be the day you turn fully to Jesus. Ask Him to save you, lead you, and empower your life. He is ready – and His name is enough.
