WHO DEY – Victory in Jesus

 “Finally be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.”

WHO DEY THINK GONNA BEAT DEM BENGALS? 

N-O-O-O-O-O BODY!!!! 

Crowds of white, orange, and black clad fans gathered in Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium two Sundays ago, screamed this slogan over and over each time their favorite team scored a touchdown. Dad and I added our voices to the thundering chant as we also applauded and rooted for a Bengals win. Sometimes, though, despite all the hoopla, your team loses. But there is a contest in which we are guaranteed a complete win. There is victory in Jesus! 

A Spiritual Battle Rages

It is natural to get caught up in physical things of this world – things we can see and hear and touch – but there is a whole other realm that we see only with eyes of faith. In this spiritual paradigm a great battle rages. 

The opponents in this battle are not made of flesh and blood. Instead they are rulers, powers, and world forces of darkness. These spiritual forces of wickedness are strong and desire to pull people away from the truth. Satan, the captain and owner of the team, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He is a murderer, a liar, and the father of lies. 

With a strong adversary like this it is easy to become discouraged, but there is no need to be. Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. [And] whatever is born of God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4-5). This victory is certain and sure! The opposing team will not win because God has given us eternal life through His Son. 

Wearing the Right Gear

As we face this daily spiritual contest and the enemy who desires to drive us into the ground, we must take care to be prepared. Football players would not think of playing the game without their gear, and as God’s people we also have gear we must wear as we engage in the spiritual fight. We can stand firm against the devil’s schemes by wearing the armor of God.

Buckle on the belt of truth – Study your Bible so you don’t fall prey to the opponent’s lies.

Wear the breastplate of righteousness –  Protect your heart.

Lace up your footgear – Stay nimble and ready to bring the Gospel of peace to the world.

Carry the shield of faith – Safeguard yourself against the fiery darts of the enemy.

Strap on your helmet of salvation – Protect your mind from doubts.

Brandish the Sword of the Spirit – Know and use the truth of God’s word. 

No matter what tricky play the enemy uses he will not defeat us because our God has already won the victory in Jesus.

There is Victory in Jesus

In the earthly realm, sometimes our favorite teams get beat. But in the spiritual realm, we already know the joyous outcome. So be strong in the Lord and take heart ‘cause in this conflict the chant is always true . . .
