A Dangerous Enemy

A Dangerous Enemy

Dear Kids,

Ephesians 6:12. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.

EXTRA!  EXTRA!  READ ALL ABOUT IT!!That was the cry of the newspaper girl in the recent Cedarville Middle School production of Kilroy was Here.  Who doesn’t love a good mystery? That is just what we got to enjoy as Abigail, two cousins, & many friends all worked hard to provide quality entertainment as well as an important history lesson for each of the attendees.

Set during World War II when the world was in turmoil fighting cruel enemies, most of the action took place in a USO (United Service Organization) club located in Brooklyn, New York. This “home away from home” provided our soldiers with a fun and safe place to relax – or did it? Not when there were enemy spies involved – spies who discovered top secret information that lead to the sinking of American ships by German U-boats.
These spies were eventually discovered and captured by Private Joe Kilroy aided by FBI agents, ensuring that no more classified information would leak.  The mystery was solved and, though everyone was surprised who the espionage agents were, they were relieved that the culprits were finally put behind bars.
Though this particular story was fiction, it was based on a real period in history when our country needed to band together to fight a dangerous enemy. Many lives were at stake, but by standing strong we were finally able to beat the adversary.
Today’s verse tells us that we also have an enemy, but not one of flesh and blood. We fight against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, the mighty powers of darkness and wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.  This may seem like a fairy tale because the enemy is an unseen one, but it is very real and the Bible warns about the enemy over and over.
Our enemy, Satan, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He uses many different tactics to ruin us. He hates Jesus Christ and His people and, more than anything, wants to ruin them. He tries to get us to believe his lies about Christ, about ourselves, and about others. He stirs up quarrels and keeps us so busy that we don’t have time to read our Bibles and pray.  For those who do not know Christ as Savior, he blinds their eyes to the truth.
The Bible tells us to be alert and always to have a clear mind. The first defense is to know the enemy is there. When tempted with his schemes, stand firm in the faith, recognizing that all of our brothers and sisters in Christ are undergoing the same attacks.
Do you like to figure out a good mystery? Now you know who the real enemy is. Make sure you READ ALL ABOUT IT in God’s word, and let’s fight him together in the power of Christ!

Love,

Mama
