The Unjust Trial of Jesus: How Lies Led to Your Ultimate Freedom

“Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put Him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward.”

Matthew 26:59

Dear Friends,

It’s a fearful thing to stand before a judge and jury. If you’re ever in this situation, you hope the truth will prevail — or, if you’re guilty, that the judge will be merciful. But what if you stood before a judge influenced by false witnesses — witnesses determined to see you condemned, even though you did nothing wrong?

Two Personal Encounters With the Justice System

Twice in my younger years, I personally encountered the justice system with fear and trembling. The first time was as a new driver involved in a fender bender. The other driver filed a complaint against me. I don’t remember all the details — I think I blocked them out — but I do remember being a nervous wreck. In time, everything was resolved, and life went on.

The second time came when I was called for jury duty and actually had to appear. I hired a babysitter and nervously waited among the other potential jurors to hear a case and help decide its outcome. After a full day of apprehension, I was finally dismissed without ever stepping into the courtroom.

Both situations caused me a lot of stress. When someone else holds the power to decide what happens next, it can be terrifying. In those moments, you can only hope the justice system will uphold truth and fairness.

The Trial of Jesus: A Sham Court with an Eternal Purpose

Sadly, one of the most important trials in human history – the trial of Jesus- was a complete farce. After Judas betrayed Jesus, a group of armed men took Him to the courtyard of the high priest. There, the chief priests and the council gathered, not to find the truth but to find a reason to kill Him. These conspirators interviewed various disreputable people to see whose false testimony might stick in the Roman court of law.

False Witnesses, Twisted Words, and the Silent Lamb

Although many false witnesses came forward, none of their fabricated stories could withstand an investigation by Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. Finally, two men stepped forward and twisted Jesus’ words. They claimed He said, “I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.”

When questioned about this statement, which was not about the temple building but about His own body, Jesus refused to explain Himself to those who didn’t care about the truth. But when the high priest demanded to know if He was the Christ, the Son of God, Jesus answered truthfully — and the hammer fell.

Falsely accused of blasphemy, Jesus was condemned to die and brutally abused by those He came to save.

The Irony of the Cross: Innocence Condemned, Sinners Freed

The irony of this whole sham trial is breathtaking: Jesus, sentenced to death for sins He didn’t commit, willingly orchestrated it all so He could pay the penalty for the sins we did commit.

The book of Romans tells us that no one is righteous, not even one. We have all fallen short of the glory of God, and the wages of our sin is death. Yet in Christ, we can receive forgiveness and a complete pardon.

Someday, when we stand before the Judge of the whole world, we won’t need to fear.
Why?

No Condemnation: How the Trial of Jesus Changes Our Verdict

Because in Christ, there is no condemnation. His death on our behalf has set us free from the law of sin and death. No one can accuse us anymore because the debt has already been paid. Truth and justice will prevail.

And that is truly good news!

Love,

Mama
