Dear Kids,
What do we do when we are faced with a difficult trial that threatens to rock our world? How does one continue on in the face of devastating circumstances? When financial difficulty, illness, death, or a strained relationship strikes, it is easy to look ahead and become overwhelmed wondering how we are going to survive the days, months, or years ahead. Such thinking is too overwhelming and can cause us to give up in complete discouragement and despair.
This weekend we attended a community show at our town’s opera house. It is always so fun to see shows there for so many reasons. The opera house is an historic landmark and still has many of the old characteristics from days long gone by. It is fun to sit in the old wooden seats and wonder how many people have come and gone during the one hundred and twenty-five years that the building has been standing there. What were their stories, their trials, their joys? How did they make it to the end of their lives?
I thought that was a good way to live our lives – especially when facing difficult times. We should not worry about tomorrow but trust God for today. When things are particularly hard, we may need to break the day down into hours or even minutes. I will trust God for this minute. I will do what He wants me to do in this minute. Moment by moment passes and five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes later a year has passed and we can look back and see that God has been faithful.Minute by minute look for God’s blessings to enjoy. Maybe it is the bright daylight, a beautiful sunset, a cup of coffee with a good friend. Inch by inch, mile by mile, minute by minute put your trust in the One Who has everything under control and Who loves you more than you can even imagine.
Whether things are good or bad in your life, live minute by minute in the light of God’s presence. That is how we should measure and live each year of our time here on earth.
Love,
Mama
