Christ, the Word

Christ, the Word

John 1:1-3 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

John the Apostle began his gospel account by introducing Jesus Christ as the Word of God. In doing so he referred to the account of creation in Genesis to show that Jesus Christ truly was God. He was not a newcomer to the scene but the very One who participated in the creation of the world. Through Christ’s powerful spoken word He made everything and without Him nothing would have come into being. With just a word the whole world was created – the sun, the seas, animals, and humans and without Him there would still be nothing.
Today we are blessed not only with Christ, the physical Word of God, but with the Bible, the written Word of God. This written word that we can hold in our hands also has creating power, for through it God brings new life to those who will open, read, and believe it.
God’s Word Creates a Truthful Heart. In a world full of the lies of Satan our minds and hearts become deadened to the truth. It started in the Garden of Eden when Eve believed the lie that God did not have her best in mind and that He was trying to hold something good from her. Today we continue to buy into these same lies that turn us away from God. When we open the Bible and read, God’s Spirit illumines the truth clearly showing us the deception we have believed and creating a heart open to the truth.
God’s Word Creates a Living Heart. When we don’t know God we are spiritually dead. Our hearts are like a rock with no motivation for God. But Ezekiel 36 tells us that God has the power and the desire to remove this heart of stone and give us a heart of flesh. He longs to put His Spirit within us and  to cause us to walk according to His ways – ways which bring life and spiritual health. This is received by faith, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
God’s Word Creates a Healed Heart. Sin has damaged us. When Adam and Eve sinned they were cast out of the garden, their beautiful home. Sin entered the world and began its destructive path leading towards death. No longer could they walk freely with God as they once had. Physical, mental, and emotional pain also entered their bodies and hearts, and it wasn’t long before their eldest son, Cain, had a disagreement with his brother that led to murder. So the downward spiral began damaging and wounding many hearts, and this continues even today. Christ came to heal these wounds and create whole and healthy hearts by restoring our relationship with Him. King David wrote, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” This is what God wants to do for all who come to Him in their brokenness.
Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the creator of all the earth, is still creating. Do you need a truthful heart, a living heart, a healed heart? Take the Bible, the written Word of God, off the shelf. Open it and read the Words of Life. They will reveal to you Jesus, the living Word of God, and by faith  God will create in you the heart you are seeking.

Love,

Mama
