Where is Your Hope?

Where is Your Hope?

Psalm 25:1. “Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.” (KJV)

This was a familiar verse to me growing up because it was put to a tune that I sang at camp when I was younger. Through the years the words have taken on more meaning. The lines of the psalm were written by the shepherd-king David as he was going through some difficult times.
David expressed his complete reliance in the Lord for guarding his soul. He was confident that his God would not let him be ashamed and would gain the victory over his enemies. He goes on to state that no one whose hope is in God will ever be put to shame because God is completely trustworthy.
The author understands that a true follower of God desires to know His ways and follow them. He has accepted the complete forgiveness that God offers in mercy and love. And he rests in the fact that He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.
During these difficult times, David affirms that his “eyes are ever on the Lord for only He will release his feet from the enemies’ snare.”  The psalm ends with a confident statement; “. . . my hope is in you, O God.”
Are we so different from this very human man of the Bible? No, we all have difficulties. But the same God to whom David lifted up his soul, trusted for protection, and secured his hope, is the same God yesterday, today, and forever. Put your trust in Him today. He will never let you be ashamed or let your enemies triumph over you.

Love,

Mama
