A Place to Hide

A Place to Hide

Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

ChAoS met me on Thursday morning as I stepped through our office door. My desk was gone and in its place was an 8- foot folding table piled high with an assortment of equipment. Calculators, books, staplers, stamps, and a mound of paperwork and files cluttered the surface area. Somewhere under the mass my computer keyboard was hidden, recognizable only by the cord that hung over the side of the table. My computer itself was lifeless – the tangle of wires and electrical cords covering the floor reminded me of a tree that had been uprooted in a wild storm.
I should have been prepared for this. I knew the crew of men were coming to begin hauling unnecessary items to storage as we prepare to move to our new office building, but I did not expect the ensuing wreckage to be this far spread. My heart sank as I considered all that needed to be done to continue with business as usual. If I could have run away to hide I would have, but there was no place to go.
The clutter before me presented a visual of what life sometimes looks like. One day we walk through a door and are confronted with a pandemonium of circumstances that are out of our control. Possibly a disastrous event occurs that threatens the peace and order we are accustomed to.
Maybe a big decision backfires and we are left with results that put us behind the eight ball. Often our comfort is disrupted by others whose bad choices throw us into a tizzy. Our minds go round and round trying to find reasons and answers for all the confusion that threatens to undo us. If only there were a place to hide!
But there is!
Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” When chaos threatens to unravel a Christian’s life, we have a place to hide in safety. The name of our Lord, the essence of Who He is, is what protects us.

He is the answer to all our questions.
He is our shelter in times of storm.
He is our rock that will never be shaken.
He is our protection from the enemy.
He is our peace in times of ChAoS!
The ringing of the office phone brought my mind back to the situation at hand. I quickly waded through the mess, grabbed for the receiver, and calmly answered, “Sheridan & Associates, Sandy speaking!” While I jotted down the message I surveyed the scene around me. So much work to be done, but even in this muddle I had a place to hide.
The name of the Lord is a strong tower! Run to it for safety.

Love,

Mama
