Pant Sizes Can Lie, But The Truth Is Always The Truth

1 Timothy 1:6-7 “For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.”

Dear Kids,

The truth is the truth no matter which way you slice it. There are many in our day and age who believe the truth is relative, but there are some things that don’t change. No matter how we present them, the facts remain the same.

I had a rude awakening the other day. With the advent of autumn, I decided it would be a good time to go through my clothing and start bringing out my fall apparel. I grabbed a pair of pants that had not seen the light of day for quite a while and tried them on. Much to my dismay, they seemed to have shrunk while tucked away in the plastic container that had housed them. I looked at the size on the tag and was confused. The number seemed somewhat large. In fact, I had just worn another pair of pants with a lower number and they fit fine.

I continued to rummage through my closet, checking all the tags, and became aware that other well-fitting articles of clothing also had lower numbers than the one on my too-tight pants. In fact, years ago when I was younger and slimmer my number was double what it is now. That’s weird! Subconsciously, I asked myself, “Why can’t designers come up with a standard so that sizes stay the same?” Then it hit me. It’s a mind game.

No one likes to admit to having gained a few pounds or being out of shape. We all feel much better about ourselves when we can wear a lower number. So the manufacturers have manipulated the standard so we can feel good about our size. But no matter what they do they can’t change the facts.

This manipulation of truth does not only happen in the clothing industry. It is rampant in every part of life. People often don’t like the truth so they change the standards to make life more to their liking. Unfortunately, even some spiritual leaders get into the act. They stray from teaching the truth the Bible teaches and choose to pontificate on unfruitful discussions that puff up their hearers and bring them renown and favor with men. They confidently teach things they don’t understand with no regard for the end results.

Whether we like it or not, the truth is always the truth. Regardless of what the number is there is no way I can squeeze myself into some of the garments I wore when I was younger. Those days are gone forever.

And regardless of the world’s definition of truth, God’s standard never changes. So make sure you don’t fall for man’s mind games. Pant sizes can lie, but the truth is always the truth.

Love,

Mama
