Intercession Through Jesus – Someone You Can Always Count On

“The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, but Jesus, on the other hand, because he continues forever, holds the priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”

Hebrews 7:23-24

Dear Family & Friends,

Recently I have had numerous opportunities to consider the instability of life as we know it. Things are always changing and these changes disrupt our comfortable world, leaving us in grief with decisions to make. There is nothing in this world you can truly count on. However, there is one thing that we can be absolutely sure of! Through Jesus we have salvation and access to our heavenly Father. This will never change because Jesus always lives to make intercession for us.

My Childhood Dentist

As a young girl I never had to worry about who would take care of my dental needs because two of my mom’s brothers practiced dentistry. Year after year our family would visit Uncle Jack’s office where he would take X-rays, clean our teeth and fix any problems. While most children don’t love their dentist, I can honestly say I did. Uncle Jack was the nicest and kindest man and made an unpleasant task comfortable and even fun with his stories and pleasant laugh.

But one day, after Dad and I married we decided to move from New Jersey to Ohio. Along with many other changes I had to find another dentist. It wasn’t long before our family settled in with Dr. Jerry Frasure, a wonderful man who reminded me of my Uncle Jack. For many years all of us had our teeth well cared for by this kind and capable man.

Yet, in 2021, another change occurred: Dr. Frasure retired and our family was again on the search for a new dentist. It wasn’t long before we found another one located in Xenia. Dr. David Crandall became our friendly go-to guy and kept our smiles bright and clean.

Heartbreaking News

Sadly, we recently received the heartbreaking news that Dr. Crandall, our most recent beloved dentist, suddenly passed away. Our hearts grieve with his family and staff as they process this tragedy that has changed their lives. Now there are many patients who relied on Dr. Crandall who are also grieving as they search for someone they can trust as much as they trusted him.

As I thought about life and its uncertainty, I was reminded of today’s passage in the book of Hebrews. Nothing in life is perpetual. We are only here for a short time and during that time things will constantly change.

Even the Israelites of the Old Testament had to face the unsettling fact of constant change in their religious rituals. Year after year they had to rely on a human priest to offer their sacrifices and make atonement for their sins. Yet these men would get old and die and another would have to take their place.

Intercession Through Jesus

But Jesus, on the other hand, the sinless Son of God, in offering the perfect sacrifice of His own body is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him. This is because He always lives to make intercession for them.

I know as time passes there will be constant life changes that come our way. Our hearts will grieve. We will be forced to find other options. But I am so grateful that the most important thing, our relationship with God, is secure forever because of Jesus. This is something –  this is Someone – you can count on!
