The Body of Christ – The Enormous Benefit of Teamwork

“But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

1 Corinthians 12:7

Note from Mama: As we prepare for this year’s annual FFA Alumni Auction I found this article from last year that I never published. I also found a golden oldie photo of our wonderful staff from a few years ago. I hope you enjoy and if you are around, we would love for you to join us on March 9th for this year’s FFA auction

Dear Family & Friends,

I must give a big shout out to a wonderful group of people! This past Saturday our company managed the annual Greene County FFA Alumni auction. Fifty-five degree weather dropped into the twenties on the big day, but a dedicated group of people showed up prepared and worked hard all day. Clerks, cashiers, local auctioneers, FFA alumni, FFA students, food providers, and more rallied together, each doing his or her part in order to make the day a success. Every single person contributed and each was needed. This kind of cooperation reminds me of the body of Christ.

The Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians

The Apostle Paul’s first recorded letter to the Corinthians discussed that body. In chapter 12 he gives an explanation of spiritual gifts. Each child of God receives gifts from the Holy Spirit for the purpose of blessing the church. When each believer uses his or her gift(s) the whole body of believers benefits.

Paul compares the church to a human body. One body has many parts and each part is important to the health and functioning of the whole. A foot facilitates walking. The eye generates sight. The nose enables smelling. If the whole body were an eye then we would never enjoy the fragrance of a flower. Without a foot movement would be difficult. Even the unseen inner parts are crucial to the life of the body. So it is with each believer.

The Body of Christ

Just as each member of our auction team played a crucial part in Saturday’s auction success, so each person in the body of Christ must use his or her gifts to dispense God’s grace to the rest of the body. Some of these gifts are words of wisdom, words of knowledge, faith, mercy, prophecy, administration, helps, and more. Each gift is given and must be used for the common good.

I can’t imagine running a huge auction without the help of a wide variety of people. Nothing would be accomplished if only the auctioneers showed up. The FFA alumni tagged and organized the equipment. The clerks recorded all that took place. The cashiers collected the money. The food vendors kept everyone fueled and functioning. And so many more did their part. Each was needed to make the day a success!

Each Believer is Important

So, too, God has placed each member in the body of Christ just as He desired. And every single believer is important and necessary. Every one must use his or her spiritual gift in the power of the Holy Spirit for the benefit of all.

So thank you all so very much! All my auction co-workers – you knocked it out of the park! And all my fellow believers – the ministry of your spiritual gifts greatly blesses all of God’s children, me included!

Love,

Mama
