Overflowing Streams of Living Water: What Do Others See In You

“On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If a man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.’ By this He meant the Spirit . . .”

John 7:37-39

Dear Friends,

What Kind of Energy Do You Bring Into a Room?

Recently, I listened to a short message from Dr. Henry Cloud, a well-known psychologist, in which he asked this intriguing question: “What kind of energy do you bring when you enter a room?”

At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the wording. Energy can sound a little abstract, even uncomfortable. But the more I thought about it, the more it challenged me. How do people perceive me when I walk into a room? Am I encouraging or withdrawn? Hopeful or heavy? Peace-filled or overwhelmed?

A Deeper Desire Beneath Our Daily Moods

As I reflected on the question, I realized the answer probably depends on the day. Like everyone else, I experience emotional and physical ups and downs. There are days when energy is low and joy feels hard to express. But beneath those fluctuations, I recognized something deeper – what I want people to see in me when I enter a room: a woman whose life overflows with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

This may not always look the way people expect. Difficult days are still difficult. Tears may still fall. Yet even in trials and heartache, I pray that my soul would overflow with hope in God. I want others to see an inner peace and strength that does not originate with me, but flows from a steadfast trust in Jesus Christ.

Jesus, the Source of Living Water

Jesus is the One who fulfills every need.

He is Living Water who quenches every thirst.

He is the Bread of Life who satisfies every longing.

The Holy Spirit and the Power to Overflow

In his Gospel, John describes how, on the last and greatest day of the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus boldly announced the coming gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift would be made possible through His death and resurrection. Once His redemptive work was complete, everyone who believed in Him would receive the Spirit, and His presence would be evident as streams of living water flowing from within them.

The book of Acts shows us exactly what this looked like. The Holy Spirit empowered the apostles and early believers to boldly bear witness to Jesus in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Wherever they went, they carried the Spirit’s presence with them because He lived within them. What an extraordinary gift!

Faith That Is Seen, Even in Hard Places

And yet, their lives were not easy. There were trials, persecution, and suffering. Still, their hope in Christ could not be silenced. Paul and Silas, for example, sang hymns of praise while chained in a damp prison, recovering from a brutal beating. Their faith and joy were unmistakable, and those around them took notice.

So as I return to Dr. Cloud’s question – What kind of energy do you bring when you enter a room? – my prayer is this: that the Holy Spirit’s presence in my life would be unmistakable, flowing outward like streams of living water. Not perfection, but transformation. Not self-generated strength, but hope rooted in Christ.

Living as Streams of Living Water Today

What about you? What kind of presence do you bring with you when you enter a room? Have you placed your faith in Jesus? If so, His Spirit lives within you too, and His living water is meant to flow through your life just as He promised.

May we live in light of this precious gift, so that wherever we go, others are blessed – and Jesus is clearly seen in us.

Love,

Mama

Take a moment to reflect: What do others experience when you walk into a room? Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh, so His living water flows freely through your life – bringing hope, peace, and the presence of Jesus wherever you go.
