Dear Kids,

Isaiah 40:31. Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings of eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

I dragged myself out of bed a few months ago burdened by many questions and concerns. I had tossed and turned all night as my mind churned on and on, unwilling to shut down. I had only just fallen into a deep sleep when the grating sound of the alarm startled me and I knew I had to get up. After making lunches and saying goodbye to you kids leaving for school I sat down in my chair and wondered how I would ever get through the day. I opened my Bible to Isaiah 40 hoping to supernaturally imbibe some hidden strength from the words on the page. I waited and prayed and after a few minutes felt that I could at least take a shower and get going to work.
Soon after arriving at the office and sitting at my desk, I heard a knock on the door and a friend beckoned me to come outside. He pointed out into the field adjacent to our office. There I saw to my great surprise a real, live bald eagle resting on the rich soil. I could hardly believe it! We both fumbled with our cell phones trying to capture a picture of this rare surprise. Do eagles usually fly around in Ohio? I had never seen one. After a few minutes he stretched his powerful wings and propelled himself to a tall tree at the edge of the field where we lost sight of him.
Seeing the eagle so close to where I stood, I recalled those words that I have read most of my life. I remembered the strength, grace, power, and stamina that God promises to those who are faithful to Him. I remembered that, even in my physical fatigue, I have a God Who never tires and Who is ready to give me the strength and ability to do anything He asks me to do. What an encouragement that a providential encounter with one of God’s magnificent creatures was to me!
After comparing our pictures and sharing encouraging words my friend and I went back to business with a new strength and spring to our step. That is just like the Lord to send an eagle to the backyard to let us know that He cares.
When you are weary and tired, wondering if you can go on, wait on the Lord. He will show up in surprising ways!

Love,

Mama
