Living Life “Day by Day”

Dear Kids,

Psalm 31:14-15a. “But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands. (NLT)

Yesterday I attended a funeral of a lovely woman I wish I could have known better. I was blessed to hear some of the stories of her life and how she walked with God on a daily basis. One of the hymns that we sang took me back to my childhood. As a young girl at camp I learned this particular song and it made an impact on me, becoming one of my favorites throughout the years.

Day By Day
  1. Day by day, and with each passing moment,
    Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
    Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
    I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
    He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
    Gives unto each day what He deems best—
    Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
    Mingling toil with peace and rest.
  2. Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
    With a special mercy for each hour;
    All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
    He Whose Name is Counselor and Pow’r.
    The protection of His child and treasure
    Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
    “As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
    This the pledge to me He made.
  3. Help me then in every tribulation
    So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
    That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
    Offered me within Thy holy Word.
    Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
    E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
    One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
    Till I reach the promised land.
    Karolina W. Sandell-Berg, 1865
    I was encouraged to hear the testimony of a godly woman who lived the words of this song – trusting her Savior day by day. No one knows what the future holds, but we do know Who holds the future. Trust Him with every moment of your life and one by one, the days, the moments fleeting, He will take you to the promised land.

    Love,

    Mama
