Truth Wins: A Reason to Rejoice

1 Corinthians 13:6 “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” (NIV)

Ruins of the Roman Colosseum

Why is human nature drawn to drama and tragedy? All through the years people have been mesmerized by the tragic and horrible. In the days of ancient Rome, citizens gathered at the Colosseum to watch men and women be torn apart by raging lions and wild beasts. They cheered and celebrated as the sharp teeth of vicious animals crunched the bones of the unfortunate gladiators and defenseless criminals.

During the Civil War’s famous Battle of Bull Run, young men and women dressed in their best clothes and paraded out to the battle field toting picnic baskets and opera glasses. They expected to enjoy a fun day watching men warring and killing each other.

In more recent United States history, large crowds were drawn to the sites of lynchings where innocent men and women were beaten, strung up, and left to die simply because their skin was dark. Those observing these atrocities seemed to have not a care in the world and considered this a great form of entertainment.
Even today many are drawn to horror movies, gruesome murder TV programs, and juicy, immoral gossip about movie stars, high profile people, or just the neighbor down the street.
When we have the love of God in our hearts we will not delight in what is evil. We will not take pleasure in sin or the drama surrounding it. The injustices that this world holds will create a deep sadness and desire for God to establish His kingdom and right all wrongs.
God’s kind of love rejoices in the truth. Those who are believers should desire to share the good news of salvation with a warped civilization that is broken and controlled by sin. Jesus Christ, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, should be the object of our affection and focus. He is the One we should seek, desire, and point the world to.

One day King Jesus will return and make right all the injustices of a world racked with sin. As Christians we have the assurance that some day evil will be vanquished and truth will prevail. All the killing, murder, immorality, and drama will be abolished. There will be no more crying or dying, hating or abusing. There will be no more delighting in evil – the truth will win. Now that’s a reason to rejoice!

Love,

Mama
