God Lie? NEVER

God Lie? NEVER

Numbers 23:19. “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

Have you ever had an experience where someone has let you down? He or she said one thing then changed his mind. Or maybe he or she promised to do something and didn’t follow through. Whether or not it was deliberate, we humans are all subject to falling short of our best intentions. This is not so of God. When He says He will do something, we can be assured that it will happen. No circumstance will thwart His intentions.
Israel was encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan opposite the city of Jericho. The whole land of Midian was in great fear of them because they were so numerous. The Moabites and their king, Balak, had heard the stories about how the Israelite God had done many miracles to free them from the Egyptians and now the very same Israelites were camped right outside their door.
In his fear, King Balak summoned a great sorcerer of the day to curse the children of God. He sent messengers to find Balaam, the son of Beor, and bring him to do his bidding. He figured if Balaam pronounced a curse on Israel he would have a chance at defeating them and driving them out of the land.
Balaam was known in those days as one who could manipulate the gods. By examining animal livers he supposedly could figure out what the gods wanted and then manipulate them to do or say what he wanted. Balak and Balaam both thought that the mighty God of Israel could be influenced in this way as well, but they were about to get a big surprise.
When it was time for Balaam to speak the curses against Israel only words of blessings came out of his mouth. King Balak furiously questioned why Balaam had gone against his request by blessing his enemy instead of cursing them. Balaam, the pagan sorcerer, replied, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

God intended to bless His children and no one could manipulate Him into changing His plans. He is still the same today. Whatever God says He will do and whatever He promises, He will cause to happen no matter how difficult it may seem. Isn’t it comforting to be a child of this strong and powerful God? No matter who tries to defeat you, they can do or say nothing to harm you without His approval. God is not a man that He should lie and that is a fact you can count on.

Love,

Mama

This is such a foundational truth, and it's so POWERFUL. I love knowing God will not lie to me and that He can be depended upon.
