God’s Steel Trap

God’s Steel Trap

Hebrews 6:10 “God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.”
Steel bear traps that Dad & I saw this Spring.
I have never had a very good memory. No matter how hard I try, a piece of information I want to remember will slip off the edge of my mind the moment I am distracted. This is very frustrating to me, so over the course of my life I have learned ways to counteract this disability. Checklists and notes are essential to my daily existence and they work great – as long as I can remember where I put them. 🙂

Dad, on the other hand, has a great memory. He loves to tease that his mind is a steel trap for information. I am amazed at his ability to recite old phone numbers, dates of historical events, and trivia that long ago my mind discarded to make room for more important stuff. What a gift this is!

Memory is so important especially when it comes to people. I don’t think there is anyone who doesn’t want to be remembered on their birthday or rewarded when they have done something good. You can see a person brighten up when you call them by their first name instead of saying, “Hey, You!” There is a warm and pleasant feeling that fills an individual when they are distinguished from the rest of the crowd.

My lack of memory skills makes me even more grateful for a God who never forgets. No matter how insignificant one may feel in this world full of people striving to be noticed, God looks down and sees those who are His. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them. Even the giving of a cold cup of water to a thirsty stranger will not escape His notice (Matt 10:42). He stores every tear in a bottle (Psalm 56:8), collects every prayer of His saints in a golden bowl (Rev. 5:8), rewards every act of faith (Hebrews 11:6), and writes every word of those who fear and honor Him in a scroll of remembrance (Malachi 3:16).

So do not be discouraged. Though the world may never know your name, you have a God who will never forget. Even more than your earthly father, your heavenly Father’s mind is the perfect steel trap. Every single detail about you is safe inside His mind and heart. He will never forget you!

Love,

Mama
