Finding Stability in the Midst of Change

Malachi 3:6 For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”

Dear Kids,

The end of 2019 has whipped around us like a strong wind blowing us into a season of monumental changes. Life is never static. Year after year new opportunities present themselves, deep losses bring sorrow, and new relationships spring forth. Some of these changes are scary, and some are exciting, but we all must develop flexibility. No matter how hard we try to keep things the same we will fail. There is only one thing – one Person – Who always remains the same. He is the stability we all long for and to Whom we must hold on.

This Year Will Bring Another Wedding

Just days before Christmas, we had the privilege of meeting and hosting the family of our soon-to-be daughter-in-law. Dalia’s parents, sister, brother-in-law, and sweet niece secretly arrived around 2 AM on December 20th. Both families spent time together talking and connecting as we waited to help celebrate Nathan & Dalia’s engagement. There was much scurrying around as the sisters in both families prepared to hide in the bushes at the nearby park to capture the moment of the big ask on camera. Two lives, two families of very different backgrounds preparing to move forward into the New Year and beyond together.

Change Brings Disruption

While many of these changes are pleasant and exciting they also bring about disruptions in the normal patterns of our lives. The holidays looked different with two of you kids and your families away from us this year. The usual hustle and bustle of meals and presents and activity was just a little quieter and calmer. This gave more time to reflect on things in the past and wonder about things to come. What will the coming year bring?

No one can discern the future, but there is Someone who is an ever present constant through every stage of our lives. He has been around since before the beginning of time and has never changed in all of His dealings with men and women. His love is eternal. His grace is abundant. His power is great. His mercy is everlasting. He cares about you and me and will sustain us through all the twists of life. Those who know Him can testify to these truths and He Himself has said it, “I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”

God Never Changes

The new year is upon us. It will be a year of big changes for us all. Weddings, graduations, new extended family members, and more will throw us out of our norm and launch us into uncharted waters. But there is no need to fear. The Lord Who holds the future holds us in the palm of His hands.  And He never changes!

Love,
Mama
