Just a Little Talk With Jesus

Just a Little Talk With Jesus

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

Dear Kids,

What do you do when your heart and mind are bursting with overwhelming concerns? Do you mull the problems over and over until you cripple up with despair? Do you try to drown the feelings with activity? Or do you follow the encouragement of an old country gospel song and have “Just a Little Talk With Jesus?”

Encouraging Reminder From the Statler Brothers

Recently I have been reading the book, The Music of the Statler Brothers: An Anthology, written by Don Reid, the lead singer of the Statler Brothers. I was first introduced to this amazing country and gospel music quartet when in college and they have been one of my favorites over the years. They just have the knack of capturing real life situations and setting the words and emotions to music.

When I listen to their popular recording, Maple Street Memories, I am transported back to the front porch of my childhood. And the music of Atlanta Blue always stirs up the lonely feelings I felt when Dad and I were dating long distance – the circumstances and state don’t match but the emotions still come.

The Statlers also sang many old gospel songs and my recent book choice reminded me of a good one: Just a Little Talk With Jesus. I hadn’t thought of this southern gospel staple in years, but the simple message reminded me of an important truth. When we carry burdens (and we all do) we don’t have to try to handle the weight on our own. We can have a little talk with Jesus and tell Him about our troubles. He will hear our faintest cry and answer by and by. Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right!

Just a Little Talk With Jesus Makes It Right

I smile when I listen to the lyrics and hear the uplifting music of this classic song because the words are so true! There is never a day, an hour, or a minute when we can’t take our concerns to the Lord. He tells us not to allow anxiety to overwhelm us but instead to bring everything to Him through prayer with thanksgiving. He promises His perfect peace will guard our hearts and minds when we do.

The next time you experience the heavy weight of overpowering concerns and you are tempted to mull them over and over or drown them out with certain vises, think again! The Statlers' uplifting rendition reminds us that Just a Little Talk With Jesus Makes it Right!

Love,

   Mama

My favorite blogger, my favorite music act, and one of my favorite and “go to” scripture passages – these thoughts warm my heart!

I remember going with you to see the Statlers in concert. It is such a fun memory! I love that they always sang a gospel song. This golden oldie is such a good reminder and comfort!

I absolutely love this: There is never a day, an hour, or a minute when we can’t take our concerns to the Lord. He tells us not to allow anxiety to overwhelm us but instead to bring everything to Him through prayer with thanksgiving. He promises His perfect peace will guard our hearts and minds when we do.
