When Life Breaks Down, Call on God: A Real-Life Reminder of His Faithfulness
“Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Dear Friends,
Who do you call when you are in a fix?
Anyone who has faced a difficult or unexpected problem knows how important it is to have someone reliable to call when help is needed. Life can be temperamental at best. You never know when you’ll need a helping hand. That’s why it’s crucial to be connected to someone you can trust.
But even when your best support person isn’t available, there is Someone even more trustworthy—One who will never let you down. You can always call on God.
A Real-Life Frustration
Tuesday afternoon I found myself in a bit of a pickle. I left our office around 4:15 hoping to get to two banks in Xenia before closing time. I arrived at the first one with plenty of time to spare, ran in, and made my deposits. But when I came back out to my Jeep my heart sank. The single click of the engine quickly told me the story.
This was not the first time my vehicle had given me this trouble. Three other times, my battery had conked out without any warning, and I had been stranded away from home. Despite the fact that I had already taken the Jeep to the shop two times, the issue persisted – and here I was, stuck, again.
I popped the hood… or at least tried to. After fumbling around in the crack between the hood and the frame and failing to find the latch, I gave up. I needed help.
I called Dad and thankfully, he answered right away. Even though he had just returned to the office from an appointment, he kindly turned around to come help me. While driving, he gave me a few mechanical tips over the phone. I hung up, determined to at least try one more time before he arrived.
The Power of Prayer and Persistence
I whispered a quick prayer and gave it another go. This time, I reached deeper beneath the hood and finally found the latch. Progress! I remembered that last time, Dad had banged on the battery with a hammer. Since I didn’t have one handy, I used the next best thing: a drill left in the car from a previous project.
With my unconventional tool, I banged on the battery’s metal connections, said another prayer, and turned the key. To my relief, the Jeep started right up. I called Dad to give him the good news and then drove straight to our local mechanic, hopeful we’d finally solve the issue once and for all.
When Problems Run Deeper
It seems like hardly a week goes by without some kind of unexpected problem. Sometimes it’s something small, like a dead battery. Other times, the troubles run deeper—relationship issues, health challenges, financial strain, or emotional pain. These situations can leave us wondering: Is there anyone who can really help me?
Often, even our closest friends or family can’t fix what’s broken. They may not have the answers or the ability to heal the pain. But God does.
The God Who Answers
The Lord has all the answers and all the power. He’s strong enough to carry your heaviest burdens and loving enough to care about even your smallest frustrations. There’s no place where we’re hidden from His sight. He knows when we sit and when we rise, and He understands our thoughts before we speak (Psalm 139).
The prophet Jeremiah, while in a prison cell, heard the Lord speak to him. God reminded Jeremiah that He had formed and established the earth (Jeremiah 33:2), and then gave him this beautiful invitation:
“Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
An Invitation to Call on God
That invitation wasn’t just for Jeremiah. It’s for us, too. When life catches us off guard, we can call out to the Lord. Whether our trial is big or small, He hears and responds. No matter what a week may bring, we’re covered. He promises wisdom, strength, and His presence to help us endure.
So, what are you facing today? Who do you usually call first?
Why not start with the Lord?
Put Him on speed dial. He promises to answer, to help, and to reveal His greater purpose in His perfect timing. Then you’ll know—He heard you. He is good. And His love endures forever.
Love,
