Our Powerful and Protective Heavenly Father

Our Heavenly Father

Our Powerful and Protective Heavenly Father

“Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD, Israel is my firstborn son, and I say to you, ‘Let my son go that he may serve me. If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’”

Exodus 4:22-23

Dear Kids,
There is not a love stronger than a parent’s love for his or her children. When I sense that my children or grandchildren are threatened, hurting, or being treated unfairly, Mama Bear comes to life and everybody better watch out! God, our loving heavenly Father has an even greater passion for His children. He hears us when we cry to Him and fights on our behalf. No one can touch one of us without His permission.

God Hears the Cry of His Children

God heard the groans and cries of His enslaved children and commissioned Moses to return to the land of Egypt and give Pharaoh a strong message. Over four hundred years previous the Israelites had travelled to Egypt to live under the protection of a generous king who revered their brother, Joseph. But when Joseph died a new tyrant king arose and he mistreated the Israelites using them as his personal slaves.

None of this was a surprise to God Who prophesied and promised His servant, Abraham, that although his descendants would be slaves and oppressed for four hundred years in a foreign land, He would bring them out with a mighty hand.

The time was now right for Abraham’s family, who had grown into a nation of over a million people, to be set free. God would rescue them, train them in His ways, and bring them to the Land of Promise. Yet God had even more planned than just moving His people from one place to another. His even greater purpose was to show the Israelites, the Egyptians, and the whole world His mighty power so they would recognize Him for who He is: the Lord over all heaven and earth!

So God instructed Moses to say to Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD, Israel is my firstborn son, and I say to you, ‘Let my son go that he may serve me.’”

The Perfect Foreknowledge of Our Heavenly Father

Within the scope of God’s perfect foreknowledge and plan He informed Moses that He would harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he would not cooperate. Through Pharaoh’s stubbornness God would show His mighty power and gain an incredible victory so the world would know His name. Yet God did not pull a fast one on the hard-hearted king. He gave him a strong warning that foreshadowed future judgment.  He said, “If you refuse to let my firstborn son go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.”

And this is exactly what happened. Despite a series of horrendous plagues, Pharaoh continued to hold Israel hostage until the LORD, in one final, incredible maneuver sent His death angel to kill all of the firstborn males in Egypt. Nobody, not even a great Pharaoh, could mess with His children and get away with it.

As I think of the great passion I have for the care and protection of my own children, it comforts me to realize that the Almighty God, my heavenly Father, feels the same protective spirit over me. Everyone who puts their faith in Jesus belongs to God and is privileged to be His child.

Our Heavenly Father Powerfully Intervenes

He will powerfully intervene on your behalf in His perfect time because He is even more passionate and powerful than a Mama Bear.

No one messes with God’s children without His permission and gets away with it!

Love,

Mama
