Thanksgiving – The Holiday of Healing

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

Psalm 100:4

Dear Kids,

It is the rare person who makes it through life without ever having any kind of major crisis. Most of us will face times of difficulty in the course of our years on earth. But the way to mitigate our grief and sorrow is to think about all of the things we are grateful for. The last Thursday in November has been set aside as a national holiday to do just that. And the best thing we can experience on earth is the love and faithfulness of a heavenly Father who walks with us through our suffering.

Thanksgiving in Sadness

This past year has been a difficult one for me. Over a year ago I lost my father; the year before that we lost my father-in-law. And stuffed in between those two losses have been a wide variety of other losses and difficulties too great and personal to number. There have been mornings where I wondered if I would be able to put my feet over the side of the bed to face another morning. But I have found that keeping my heart and mind focused on the love of my heavenly Father has given me strength. I have much to be thankful for.

Sustaining Bible Verses

Listen to several of my favorite Bible verses that have sustained me:

I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5b)

. . .those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles. (Isaiah 40:31)

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! (Isaiah 43:1b)

And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)

[God gives] the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. (Isaiah 61:3)

God’s faithfulness to these promises is what brings me joy and makes me thankful!

Enter God’s Courts With Praise

Maybe you, too, are traveling through a desert place in your life right now. Will you take a moment to consider God’s faithfulness? When you count your many blessings it will bring a spark of joy into your life that will eventually flame into a bonfire of praise. Grab onto the many promises God gives in His word and cling to them. He is good and His faithfulness continues through all generations. This Thanksgiving can be the holiday of your healing as you enter God’s courts with praise!

Love,

Mama
