Made in God’s Image: Reflecting Our Creator in Everyday Life

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:27

Dear Friends,

When was the last time you wore a shirt bearing a logo from a particular business?

These days, it’s common—and even trendy—to wear promotional merchandise that advertises a brand, school, team, or place. Logos are often prominently displayed, making it clear who we’re representing. In essence, we become walking advertisements, showing affiliation and support.

A Walking Billboard

This idea of representation has been on my mind lately. As I cleaned out my closet, I was surprised by how many T-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets bore logos from various organizations. I had plenty from our own family business, but I also found attire from high school, college, summer camps, sports teams—even a sweatshirt featuring the logo of a diner from a well-known TV show. Without realizing it, I had become a billboard for numerous entities.

But here’s the deeper truth: even if you never wear a single branded item, you still represent someone—your Creator.

Made in God’s Image

According to Genesis 1:27, every person is made in God’s Image. This means our very existence carries His imprint. Our highest purpose, then, is to reflect His character and nature to the world.

In the beginning, God created Adam and Eve in His likeness and blessed them. Every human being born since carries that divine image—not in physical appearance, but in spiritual and moral capacities. We were made to reflect God’s goodness, creativity, love, and justice.

Sin Distorts God’s Image in Us

Yet, sadly, that image has been marred. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin entered the world. As a result, humanity’s reflection of God became distorted. We still bear His image, but not as clearly as intended.

  • God is perfectly patient—we are not.
  • He is always faithful—yet we often struggle with consistency.
  • God is love—yet our love can be conditional and self-serving.

Still, every time we act in truth, love, or righteousness, we reflect a glimpse of the One who made us.

God’s Image Restored

It can be discouraging to recognize how far we fall short. How can we accurately represent God when our flaws are so visible?

This is possible because God made a way to restore His image in us. He sent His Son, Jesus Who is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being” (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is the perfect reflection of what humanity was meant to be. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He made purification for our sins. Those who believe in Him are made new—”the old has gone, the new is here” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

As we follow Christ, God gradually transforms us to become more like Him. One day, as 1 John 3:2 promises, “When Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” On that day, we will reflect our Creator perfectly.

Represent God Well

So as you pull on your next branded sweatshirt, remember: more important than the logos we wear is the image we bear.

You were created to represent God. Live with that purpose in mind and represent Him well.

Love,

Mama
