Change Directions Spiritually

From Spiritual Blindness to Seeing Christ Clearly

Saul could see the road to Damascus clearly, yet he suffered from spiritual blindness that kept him from recognizing Jesus as the Messiah. Sometimes God uses unexpected circumstances to open our eyes to the truth, replacing darkness with the light of Christ.

Do Not Grow Weary in Doing Good: A Lesson from a Slow-Blooming Lilac

Do You Look Like Your Father?

Who do you see in the mirror? Those who are born into the same family more likely than not resemble each other in some way or another. Because the family members share the same genetics there will be similarities in appearance, talents, personalities and interests. Each person, though different individuals, will be identifiable as part of their family of origin by these similar characteristics.

Mayberry Lessons – Be Quick on the Draw

One of our favorite past times around here is watching an old sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show. After many years of watching, Andy, Aunt Bea, Opie, Floyd, and Otis all seem like old friends. And, of course, everybody’s favorite character is the braggadocios, bumbling, yet lovable, deputy, Barney Fife. He takes his job seriously, though Andy has to bail him out of trouble more times than not.

Loving Others and My One-Second Chance to Snap a Photo

The cell phone craze has brought a new meaning to picture taking. No matter where you are, there is the possibility of recording the event in color, but this little handheld camera/phone has also given a new meaning to selfishness. A couple weeks ago Dad and I attended Luke’s graduation at Wright State University. We got up early, and arrived at the arena a couple of hours before the event to ensure that we could get a good seat to view the ceremony. I brought my camera so that I could snap Luke’s one-second moment of recognition as he received his diploma. With the school graduating 1,600 students there would be no second chances at getting this shot.

Fishing and Strong Temptations – Don’t Take the Bait!

I don’t know much about fishing, but the few times I’ve tried the rod, reel, and bait were crucial to my success. Night crawlers were the usual type of lure for me, but this weekend I received an education on the numerous different types of baits that can attract a variety of fish.

Falling Prey to Bad Advice

One of my favorite parts of auctions is the people. Everyone is so different and I enjoy interacting with them, hearing their stories and learning from their experiences. The differences, not only in looks, but also in personality are what lend a special beauty to the world around us. Thinking back over the years I can recollect numerous memories of colorful men and women who have intrigued me, given me a good laugh, and even stretched my understanding of the English language.

Do You Pass the Test?

I am proud to say that we are going to two graduations this year. Saturday we attended the Wright State University commencement services to witness Luke receive a diploma for his Masters in Mechanical Engineering. At the end of May we will be cheering as Nathan graduates with honors from high school. Each of these guys has done well and passed the tests necessary to move on.
