Do you want to experience God’s peace in your life? Then it’s time to do some mental housecleaning and clear out unwanted clutter. I happen to be an organization fanatic. Deep down inside I have a need for things to be in order and find it hard to function if things are cluttered and out of place. Even performing the simplest of tasks, like making lunch, can’t happen until the counter is clean. Some call this OCD. I just call it survival.

There are some people who just seem to inspire others. Their presence stimulates the desire in those around them to be like them or do what they do. They may possess a special talent that pushes another to work hard to attain success in the same endeavor. Or they may just have a kind and loving personality that awakens an aspiration for the same kind of compassion. These people hold a special type of power. They have the ability to mold those around them and change the world for better or for worse.

Have you ever noticed how the things you worry about the most almost never happen? In fact, the problems I encounter usually stem from situations I never gave a thought to. In the end I’ve found it is a waste of time to worry. A person can’t control everything in his or her life. Instead why not just trust the One who can!

“How did you get your name?” I asked the man standing at my desk. His given name interested me and I was curious as to the origin. He explained he was named after his father because of his father’s birth month. The neighbor and midwife had suggested it. Years later it was passed down to the next generation.

There is nothing like your home . . . except the residence of your childhood. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the little house on 24 Stewart Ave. This is the place where I spent my growing years. In my mind’s eye I can still picture my room looking out across the driveway into the neighbor’s yard. I can still hear the birds chirping and the whir of the lawn mowers clipping grass while I lay taking naps as a toddler. Every nook and cranny of that old place has embedded itself in the fiber of my soul. The front step sitting, backyard playing, and neighborhood connecting have become part of who I am.

Have you ever had your mind get stuck? Obviously a healthy individual possesses a strong and healthy brain that functions normally. But I mean getting stuck in a particular mindset. No matter how you think about a situation you keep coming up with the same answers or understanding of the circumstances. Or worse, you have no idea that you are stuck. You think you are right, and just can’t see the scenario from a different person’s perspective. This is the time when you need to ask God to hit the refresh button and renew your mind.
