Productive Waiting
By Sandra Sheridan | | Encouragement, Heaven, Salvation
What do you do when you are waiting? There are often times when we must wait for things we want to happen. Opportunities don't always open immediately and people don't always show up on time. Waiting is a big part of the human experience.
Those Aching Muscles
By Sandra Sheridan | | Decision-Making, Emotions, Encouragement, Faith, Obedience
Have you ever been so tired that your legs just ache? In my recent attempts to get back into physical shape, the reward for my exercising has been aching muscles. Emily encouraged me with the reminder that soreness is good because it tells you your body is growing stronger. But there is another kind of ache and exhaustion. It comes from an anxious and weary heart.
Estate Auctions Tell All
By Sandra Sheridan | | Auction, Encouragement, Faith, Family Life, Heaven, Help for the Hurting, Salvation, Small Town Happenings
What will people learn about you when you die? Those who don't know you will make suppositions about who you were by what you leave behind. I have learned that estate auctions tell all.
Working for an auction company, we very often deal with estates. Someone will call our office to inform us of the death of a family member or friend and employ our services to come to take care of the "stuff" they have left behind.
Depending on the situation our team will spend days, or even weeks, going through the deceased person's home, organizing the items that will sell at auction, discarding the trash, and donating clothing and other such items to charities. It is truly amazing what you can learn about someone just by looking at their belongings.
What Can I Learn?
By Sandra Sheridan | | Encouragement, Transforming the Mind
I wish I could be like her! These words sometimes float across my mind when I am feeling down on myself. I look at some of the weak areas of my life, compare them to a strong point in someone else's life, and wish that I could be different. When it comes to character qualities it is easy to imagine that you were just not born with the ability to think in certain ways. But I believe this is just an excuse.
Though we each come into the world with certain personality traits, we have the ability, with God's help, to grow in the areas that we are weak. This is confirmed by a statement that the Apostle Paul made in Philippians 4.
It is easy, when you read Paul's writings, to think that he always had things dialed in. Once he came to know Jesus he knew all the answers, he was courageous in the midst of deep trials, and always had the right attitude. But in today's verse Paul states that he learned to be content in all circumstances. This was not an attitude he was born with. He learned it.
The God Who Sees
By Sandra Sheridan | | Comfort, Encouragement, Heaven, Hope
There are lots of things I like about living in our small town. I love chatting with friends while picking up a gallon of milk at the local grocery store. I love riding my bike to our cozy library and picking out a movie with the help of a familiar and friendly face. I enjoy getting an ice-cream cone or penny candy at Mom and Dad's Dairy Bar. And I like being greeted by name at the local bank. But there is one recent activity that has been fun as well as encouraging.
Do Not Fear
By Sandra Sheridan | | Comfort, Encouragement
As I have been reading about Joshua, Moses' successor, I have heard God tell him over and over to be strong and courageous. Joshua had a huge mission ahead of him. He would be the one to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land. There were lots of strong enemies and the task was daunting.
