Falling Prey to Bad Advice
By Sandra Sheridan | | Auction, Family Life, Help for the Hurting, Small Town Happenings, Transforming the Mind
One of my favorite parts of auctions is the people. Everyone is so different and I enjoy interacting with them, hearing their stories and learning from their experiences. The differences, not only in looks, but also in personality are what lend a special beauty to the world around us.
Thinking back over the years I can recollect numerous memories of colorful men and women who have intrigued me, given me a good laugh, and even stretched my understanding of the English language.
Do You Pass the Test?
By Sandra Sheridan | | Encouragement, Faith, Hope, Obedience, Salvation
I am proud to say that we are going to two graduations this year. Saturday we attended the Wright State University commencement services to witness Luke receive a diploma for his Masters in Mechanical Engineering. At the end of May we will be cheering as Nathan graduates with honors from high school. Each of these guys has done well and passed the tests necessary to move on.
With God Death Means Life!
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith, Family Life, Heaven, Hope, Obedience, Wisdom for Living
At some point in our lives, each of us will come face to face with death. For some of us a loved one or dear friend will pass away. For others our own mortality will become apparent with the diagnosis of a dread disease or a fatal accident. There is no escaping the reality that living brings; death comes to us all. But with God death means life!
God’s Delay Equals 1+5 Blessings
By Sandra Sheridan | | Decision-Making, Family Life, Help for the Hurting, Hope, Transforming the Mind, Wisdom for Living
I am sitting in the truck listening to the thunder erupt in the distance. The blackening skies and the gentle raindrops spattering the windshield explain the delay in Abigail’s track meet. Another boom causes me to add another thirty minutes to the delay. Will this track meet ever get underway?
I don’t like delays. I am the kind of person who likes to get on with things. Let’s make a list and get it done. Even with track meets, I want to go and enjoy the races and then head home to get to the next thing. But that is not the way life works. Sometimes the rain and the thunder force us to wait.
God loves to give gifts. He gives many to all of mankind. The sun, flowers, blue skies, family, and friends are all examples of the blessings He bestows on all people. But for those who belong to Him and walk according to His ways, He gives special attention. He does not withhold any good thing from His own. But sometimes there is a delay to His blessings. Sometimes our all-wise Father sees fit to make us wait.
Benefits of the Sun and the Son
By Sandra Sheridan | | Comfort, Family Life, Heaven, Hope, Wisdom for Living
With the reappearance of the spring sun I have thought a lot about light. For the past week or so the earth has grown so fresh and bright. The tractors blocking my path as they slowly move from field to field and the grassy yard that now requires a regular mowing have not been successful in deterring my mood from flying high. It seems that God’s gift of light has many benefits by which we all are blessed.
The Ministry of the Birds
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith, Heaven, Help for the Hurting, Hope
The recent gorgeous Spring days have motivated me to start walking again. The early morning light peeking in my bedroom window taps me on the shoulder and beckons me to slip out from under the covers and greet the morning.
As I quietly tiptoe out into the cool air, one of my favorite parts of the walk is the bird chorus belting out a daybreak melody. All the earth is silent as if listening to their glorious anthem. They are so cheerful and full of joy.
I walk along, listening to the wordless message, entranced by the different warbles, trills, and whistles. Even without words I hear and understand that these feathered ministers sitting in their leafy pulpits are praising the One who created them. They are not trying to impress any human being, but their sweet song of devotion does not go unnoticed. Unknowingly they are speaking to my heart.

God Prepares the Way: Lessons from Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10
By Sandra Sheridan | | Knowing God
Have you ever wondered if God is working while you wait? In Acts 10, God orchestrated events in two different places at the same time, showing how God prepares the way long before we understand what He is doing. The story of Peter and Cornelius reminds us that even when we cannot see the whole picture, God is faithfully carrying out His plans.
God Notices Your Faithfulness: Small Acts, Eternal Impact
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith
God notices your faithfulness, even when your efforts seem small or unseen. Through the story of Cornelius and a childhood memory of serving in a flooded church, this devotional reminds us that God sees our hearts and often works through ordinary acts of obedience in extraordinary ways.
Starlink, Mountain Roads, and Connection With God Through Jesus Christ
By Sandra Sheridan | | Salvation
When a family getaway in the mountains left us without internet service, a Starlink connection reminded me of a far greater truth: the only lasting connection with God through Jesus Christ comes through faith, not human effort.
The Eternal Impact of Faithful Service for God
By Sandra Sheridan | | Discipleship
Faithful service for God does not always happen on a stage or behind a pulpit. Sometimes it happens quietly through everyday acts of love, generosity, and obedience. The story of Tabitha in Acts 9 is a powerful reminder that God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways to point others to Christ.
