Have you ever wondered why certain things happen and other things don't? Why some people make good decisions and others don't? Why certain individuals have a change of mind while others continue to grow hard-hearted? Why some circumstances bring about positive change and other experiences end badly? How could we, as humans, possibly know, but I wonder . . .

Recently while visiting the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, I purchased a calendar that highlights an attribute of God every month. This month the attribute is God's sovereignty. The definition on the calendar is as follows:

Our God is a merciful God! Even when we are at our worst He reaches down to bring us to a place of healing. Though many doubt God's love and care when they experience tragedies and difficulties, you can be sure that God never changes. Even in the trials God's mercy is present.

There are many strong and powerful people in the world. In fact, the power to control things is present in each individual. We want things our way, and so we do what we can to orchestrate circumstances to our advantage. This can be done in a passive-aggressive way, which is the indirect expression of hostility, or it can be done openly where verbal or physical harm to others is the outcome.

Do you make decisions based on what other people might think? Most of us do. Whether it is what we say, or where we go, or what we wear, often our first thought is, "How will others perceive this?" This is not usually the best way to make decisions.

This world is a dangerous place. Though many of the people we meet on a daily basis are decent individuals, there are many others who can't be trusted. You can never be too cautious. One doesn't need to be walking down a dark alley anymore to get mugged. From visiting the internet in your own living room to shopping at the local mall there are those who will take you for all your worth, even down to stealing your identity.
