Christian Devotionals and Scripture Applied to Everyday Life

Living in a rural area sometimes brings about winter nuisances. As I slowly and cautiously drove to work last week through the newly fallen snow, I noticed right away that it had happened again - the snowplow had knocked our office's rural mailbox down. Grrrr!

The recent sub-zero temperatures in Ohio have given new meaning to the phrase, "Keep the home fires burning." Since we Sheridans depend in part on the heat from our wood burning stove, it is an unspoken agreement that whoever is at home or gets up first in the morning needs to gather the remaining embers into a pile and stock the stove full of more wood. In this way we are all assured of a cozy place to take the chill out of our bones.

How do you respond when the things God does do not seem to make sense? It is easy in difficult situations to become angry, confused, afraid, or even doubtful. Often we may even try to "fix" what we think is wrong. 

Waiting is a difficult thing.  It takes a lot of patience and trust. In our culture this is not a a virtue that we have mastered.  We live in an instant world - instant potatoes, instant cash, instant service at drive through food chains. We become peeved if we have to wait a second longer than expected.

During a recent church service our pastor reminded us of something all Christians are called to do - WAIT. Though this is a very hard thing to do, it is more often than not what God asks us to do.

I don't know of anyone who doesn't want to be loved or provided for. Do you?
