People seem to thrive on adventure. The thrill of new experiences and drama often give us a high. But there is something to say about the everyday, normal activity of life. You could even say it is God’s gift of the ordinary.

“You need to be smarter than your dog!” A friend and mentor encouraged me with these words the other day. She was right! This important lesson applies to more than just your puppy. You also need to be smarter than another type of mongrel that longs to get the best of you – your sin nature!

Distractions are a part of life. Sometimes distractions can be pleasant if they are enjoyable. Other times they are annoying because they keep us from finishing a project. But every once in a while distractions can be devastating!

God’s presence is with His children at all times. But sometimes He makes His presence known in glorious ways. More often than not this show of His glory and power follows some preparation. Today, as always, this preparation is usually prayer!

Our family has found a new pastime. After a busy day of school and work Dad, Abigail, and I will often plop down in front of the TV with a bowl of popcorn to watch an episode of the television show called Blue Bloods. For generations the colorful Reagan family has served the metropolis of New York City through the police department. Together with a number of other skilled participants this family participates in seeking out perpetrators of various crimes committed in the city that never sleeps.
