A Place to Hide
By Sandra Sheridan | | Comfort, Decision-Making, Encouragement, Transforming the Mind
ChAoS met me on Thursday morning as I stepped through our office door. My desk was gone and in its place was an 8- foot folding table piled high with an assortment of equipment. Calculators, books, staplers, stamps, and a mound of paperwork and files cluttered the surface area. Somewhere under the mass my computer keyboard was hidden, recognizable only by the cord that hung over the side of the table. My computer itself was lifeless - the tangle of wires and electrical cords covering the floor reminded me of a tree that had been uprooted in a wild storm.
Mowing Straight Lines
By Sandra Sheridan | | Encouragement, Faith, Relationships
How do you keep from veering off course when life gets tough? Things seem to be going along smoothly and all of a sudden a difficult trial pops up and makes our life-race hard. At first our faith may be strong, but as the uphill battle continues our trust in God can waver, our pace slow, and perhaps we are even tempted to give up and sit down on the sidelines. There is only one thing that can keep us headed in the right direction - our focus.
Don’t Get Left in the Dust – Pace Yourself!
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith, Family Life, Heaven, Hope, Small Town Happenings
You have probably seen him - the one who shoots off the starting line with incredible speed and bounds to the front of the pack. What a thrill it must be for this runner to know that he has left everyone in the dust!
Are you growing or not?
By Sandra Sheridan | | Encouragement, Faith, Heaven
For the past two years I have been a member of an advisory board for the Education Department at Cedarville University. In yesterday's meeting we discussed the need for student teachers to improve their student assessment skills. It's wonderful to have a clear objective and an interesting lesson plan, but the real test is whether or not the students are growing in their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Without that something in the method of teaching needs to change.
Stray Chickens & Stray Thoughts
By Sandra Sheridan | | Family Life, Help for the Hurting, Hope, Obedience, Relationships
We have a somewhat regular pastime around here of chasing chickens. Quite often one of the hens will "fly the coop." Looking out the kitchen window, I will see her pecking around the side of the barn and, with chagrin, brace myself for another energetic escapade. It is not an easy ordeal to corral a chicken into a corner or shoo her back into the barn. She likes being free to roam the fields looking for succulent bugs and leftover corn kernels from last year's harvest.
Finish Strong
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith, Family Life, Heaven, Help for the Hurting, Hope, Salvation, Small Town Happenings
With the arrival of warmer weather I have been enjoying the opportunity to attend middle school and high school track meets. I have always loved watching each of you boys, and now Abigail, participate in the high jump, but I have especially loved the races. There is nothing like watching a good runner pace himself and at the right moment kick it in, pass his opponents, and win the race. But recently I made an observation!
When God Changes Our Assumptions: Lessons from Acts 11
By Sandra Sheridan | | Knowing God
We all have ideas and assumptions that feel comfortable and familiar. But sometimes God lovingly reveals a better way of thinking. Join me in Acts 11 as we discover what happens when God changes our assumptions and aligns our hearts with His truth.
God Prepares the Way: Lessons from Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10
By Sandra Sheridan | | Knowing God
Have you ever wondered if God is working while you wait? In Acts 10, God orchestrated events in two different places at the same time, showing how God prepares the way long before we understand what He is doing. The story of Peter and Cornelius reminds us that even when we cannot see the whole picture, God is faithfully carrying out His plans.
God Notices Your Faithfulness: Small Acts, Eternal Impact
By Sandra Sheridan | | Faith
God notices your faithfulness, even when your efforts seem small or unseen. Through the story of Cornelius and a childhood memory of serving in a flooded church, this devotional reminds us that God sees our hearts and often works through ordinary acts of obedience in extraordinary ways.
Starlink, Mountain Roads, and Connection With God Through Jesus Christ
By Sandra Sheridan | | Salvation
When a family getaway in the mountains left us without internet service, a Starlink connection reminded me of a far greater truth: the only lasting connection with God through Jesus Christ comes through faith, not human effort.
The Eternal Impact of Faithful Service for God
By Sandra Sheridan | | Discipleship
Faithful service for God does not always happen on a stage or behind a pulpit. Sometimes it happens quietly through everyday acts of love, generosity, and obedience. The story of Tabitha in Acts 9 is a powerful reminder that God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways to point others to Christ.
